Hudson County League
Beckman began playing for St. Gabriel's Catholic School in Manhattan as a 15 year old, turning into a star. After high school chose to not attend college but instead played for the Opals of the Hudson County League and has now decided to turn pro. Often referred to as the “Babe Ruth of Basketball” he became New York basketball's premier attraction.
A throwback player with a gritty playstyle, Beckman was committed to teamwork, defense and passing. Beckman is a point guard in every sense of the word and has helped lead electrifying teams. Not the most physically gifted player on the court, he had a tenacity that could not be matched. He takes great pride in trying to shut down opposing players, and is often successful. Scouts have heard rumors that Beckman has a “steal jar” where each of his teammates put $25 into after the game for every steal. And lets just say the jar routinely gets filled up.
On the offensive end Beckman is a tremendous distributor, always making the right pass to set up his teammates. That isn't to say Beckman can't shoot, he has a pure shooting form and has always been the team leader from the free throw line. While he hasn't been exposed to the 3 point line, scouts are certain he can hit with range as well if he decides to take the shot.
Beckman can drive the lane when needed but it's not his focus. Given his smaller size he understands where he can best impact the game and looks to stick with that. He has discussed his goal of adding some weight and strength in the pros to better handle the bigger players.
Having only been playing competitive basketball for 5 years scouts think he has some room to grow. He is also one of the younger players in this draft and with some big league coaching he could blossom.
