Born Edward Walter Kriaučiūnas in Chicago to Lithuanian immigrant parents, Krause grew up in the Town of Lake Section or, as it was once known as, Back of the Yards. He learned to play basketball from his brother who was a legend back in Lithuania, captaining the national team before the family immigrated.
Ed soon developed a reputation, and new name, that matched his play style; Moose, as he was affectionately called by those at Notre Dame, was a monster on the court. Not the tallest player, he was by far the strongest on the court at all times. He was able to bully any player he came across and was a force in the paint at cleaning up rebounds.
Even though he has a strong frame, it doesn't take away from his athletic abilities. Moose was a 3 sport star while at Notre Dame and can easily move up, down and all around on the basketball court. This strength and athletic ability help him most on the defensive end of the floor. He is rarely out of position and can easily stay in front of almost any player on the court. His quick feet help lead to a higher number of steals for a big man, something teams are very excited about. However, his height will limit his abilities to block shots, but that doesn't really affect how great of a defender he is.
While he is strong and athletic, he does leave a lot to be desired in his “touch” of the game. He will score easy put backs or on strong drives to the basket. , but otherwise he won't offer much. Also, his shooting form isnt broken but FT’s will not be a strong area for him. Scouts are unsure of how much he can improve once entering the league. He is relatively young but physically mature, the right coaching staff could work with him to improve his offensive game. He is a ready made player that will more than hold his own on defense right from the start of his career.
