Rodney McCray is an interesting prospect. He's one of the younger members of the class and scouts hope that despite being a 4 year starter he still has some room to grow his game. The interesting thing about him is that despite having size that's prototypical for a TMBSL wing player that moves between SG and SF, McCray's skills fit much more naturally at the PF position. He is a strong young man who defends well on the post and blocked some shots in college (averaging just over 1 a game for his college career), but he also possesses the quickness to defend out to the three point line without being out of place.
He does an exceptional job cleaning the glass on both ends of the court for a small forward and should benefit a TMBSL squad tremendously with his ability to do that at the next level. His shot mechanics are solid, getting to 74% from the FT line his senior year while being efficient when taking jump shot opportunities. In fact, he really only ever shoots when he is wide open and prefers to set up other teammates instead. His handle is good, so it's a little frustrating that he won't use it more often to penetrate and score in the paint.
McCray should be able to come in and at least defend his position to start but the team who drafts him will have to be patient if they're looking for him to develop into a scorer of any kind. Worst case scenario, he will be a great role player and teammate.
