Ralph Sampson is the perfect fit for any team looking for a ready-made two way big to fill out their lineup. He does a little bit of it all, he scores on the post, he has a workable shooting stroke (65% from the FT line in college and 70% as a senior), he blocks shots, and he rebounds on both ends of the floor. He's a very polished, skilled player whose experience as a four-year starter at Virginia led to a Final Four and ACC Title. His presence allowed Virginia to be a top 25 defense in multiple seasons that he was there and they were often among the top 5 teams in the country in SRS (@bk).
Sampson is the consummate team player. While he isn't much of a passer, he waits for good shots and doesn't force the issue too often. He'll never be a 30 point scorer but he will get you an efficient 20 and be active on both ends of the court. The only knocks we've heard from scouts is that you'd expect a man of his size to play stronger, but that is something that can easily be fixed in the weight room. Also, he has a tendency to leave himself vulnerable in the post to guards sneaking around in help defense and stealing his high dribbles. He'll need to work on that as well. Don't expect much projection for him as a prospect, but at this point as polished as he is, that's not really a bad thing.
