Welcome to the first written edition of skrouses2cents in 6.0. I'm breaking down the teams in the Atlantic Beastlantic division in terms of how I think they'll compete in the upcoming season. I am not analyzing all of the trades and picks that were exchanged hands, just how good I think they'll be in terms of current talent. Hope you enjoy, TIA!
BeAstlantic Division Breakdown
GM: JHB
Wings: Not great Bob, Nash is an efficient scorer sure but how much volume is he going to get? B/C- inside isn't what I want at my #1 wing scorer, Pnini and Tokoto don't appear to add much next to Nash or in relief. Grade: C+
Point: John DiBartolomeo & Vassilis Spanoulis? These fucking guys blow, both have C assists, I guess V will start because of the B turnovers? Grade: D-
Overall: This team looks to have 3 core pieces; Williams, Nash & Aziz. But I don't think that can compete big picture, maybe he sneaks in as the 8 seed. Or Nash may end up turning into a trade chip kinda soon, guess we'll have to wait see.
Overall Grade: C-
GM: 20s
Bigs: The Chief has returned to the hills of Appalachia, the clear king Coug is the big man down low. C+ in the key categories but more solid statistical grades. This make me believe he must be strong. The B B for PTS and EFF are also good for #2 scorer, not great for a #1 tho. And that F TO makes my eyebrow raise a little. He's paired with D/R big Isaiah Austin, combined these two could wreck havoc down low if the block are high enough. Savas appears to be a serviceable back up, and he, along with every big on the team, show a B Reb stat grade, nice - Grade: A-
Wings: Jon Deibler is a guy I looked at but ultimately worried about his scoring grades. I think he's going to be in the lower half of the B B PTS EFF guys. That C+ B Ins Out grade combo worries me though, I'm having flashbacks to 5.0 Ray Allen. He's also 20s only scoring wing, the rest have Ds. I think that big weakness will keep 20s from truly contributing this year. Manual and Martinez look like solid defenders, but will that be enough without being able to contribute on the other end? I wouldn't want to try it. Despite being both a UCF and OHS great (Go Lions!), I don't see Matt Milon doing much but not fucking up with those low TOs - Grade: C+
Point: PG scoring is another weakness for the Cougars, but I think Haynes will be solid with the A/A grades which should return a nice A/TO ratio. Based on 20s Bigs and Wings I thought he was going full defense here but both his PGs lack a high steal grade and show a C- and D+ DEF. Good thing for him there aren't many scoring PGs, better watch out for the post season. Grade: B-
Overall: This team is built to own the front court and slow down the other team at the defensive end. But even the best defensive teams need to score points, two scorers with B B is nice, but the well runs dry quickly after that. I don't think 20s currently has enough to seriously contend, but he's not far away.
Overall Grade: B
GM: Odin
Wings: The #2 overall pick Wayne Estes (Es-Tez) and rumored future Bob James Blackmon Jr. both boast an A A rating, the only pair of which I am currently aware. This omits the other A A on the squad and one of two PGs to have the rating. this team is going to score a ton of points, and I think it's going to start with these fellas on the wing. Not a ton of depth, Ball looks meh, but I don't see that being a problem - Grade: A+
Point: As mentioned, Mitchell is half of an elite pair in the scoring category. His DEF looks a little sus but his scoring and high ASTs should make up for it. Larry Brown off the bench looks like a great back up, he could be a solid starter if given the chance, and a valuable trade chip if the right deal presents itself. - Grade: A+
Overall: Odin worked the phone lines, and maybe the hot box, to get some great deals lines up to give himself what looks to be three really good scorers. He is running out of assets and has a giant hole in the paint, but if his strengths are strong enough he could boist the first 6.0 title -
Overall Grade: A-
GM: Muzunga
Wings: The best OHS prospect of mine in the file, Spoon was a fun man to watch play basketball. Long and lean, he would glide all over the floor and was just smooth with the ball. But that was irl, in sim league he doesn't look like he'll score much or well, but will pass it and will turn it over. He does have a redeeming quality as a good defender, but will really need Fecta to upgrade his offense and pray that D Potential doesn't hurt him in TC. No Info on Adkins and Freeman but the grades look weak, so again a one man show in a two man category. Grade: C+
Point: David Crisp, who the fuck is this guy? Fecta's only PG looks like a complete pile of dog shit, no back ups. This will be a problem. Grade: F
Overall: This team clearly is not built to win now. He has two young pieces but one has a D potential, so even the future doesn't look very bright at the moment. Fecta has some GM work to do this off season and in the coming drafts.
Overall Grade: D
GM: Duc
Bigs: Motum and Z both look like they can score and rebound, and they show B- inside grades. That's a good start, the snowman looks like a sub par 3rd big so Duc needs to improve there. His shot blocking also looks sus. A few holes to fill here. Grade: C+
Wings: I like Gates, I strongly considered him at #3, one spot before he went. What ultimately kept me away was, surprise surprise, that F TO. But he does everything, has A POT and he has one of the A A grades. He doesn't have much help though, like the Heat Bigs there is are holes at the wing. Calabria doesn't seem to offer much other than not turning it over, and Duany is an unknown. Grade: C+
Point: Duc has a real Jameer Nelson/Carlos Arroyo scenario if you know what I mean, two mediocre PGs that you're not sure who to start. Neither score well, and only one can defend, but he doesn't pass as well. So pick your poison here, they will probably be close to 50/50 in playing time by season's end. Grade: D
Overall: One nice building block for the Duc man, outside of that not much. Maybe a couple of mediocre trade chips. I don't see the Heattles in the playoffs this year maybe a 9 or 10, so close but no cigar.
Overall Grade: C-
GM: Boomslick
Wings: Billy Buford looks like the Big Bird on the docks, an A B PTS EFF grade along with high Steal marks should be a nice combo. But again those F TOs could be painful. He's lacking solid help on the wing, Horsnby doesn't seem to offer much and Mohammed's grades a literally meh. Grade: C
Point: A pair of PGs that don't score, don't look like they defend, can't rebound and really looks like they their A/TO ratio will be average or just below. The well must have been very dry by the time boomy had a chance to snag a PG. Grade: F+
Overall: Boomslick looks like he needs some time to learn the ropes of TMBSL, he has one OK piece but he's a rookie on a 1 year deal, so he already has to pay the man before seeing him grow; shitty. I hope he's getting some advice from which ever GM helped recruit him, odin was it?
Overall Grade: D+
GM: skrouse
Wings: #3 overall pick Doug Wrenn has an A B scoring line as a Rookie on a 3 year deal with A potential, and he seems to be a solid rebounder, all reason for why he's in Orlando over many others. Next to him is Oscar Schmidt with an A A stat line and B+ B+ grade. He is 30, but he should be in the midst of his prime and be a scoring title contender year 1. He does little else however. Not great depth Wright and Pickett shouldn't be expected to contribute much. Grade: A+
Point: Ed Cota doesn't look like he'll shoot much but he should get plenty of others involved and take care of the ball. The A B stat line should turn around a solid A/TO ratio, but that's about it. For defense, we'll have to look to Shannon Scott on the bench. Grade: B
Overall: The Magic have a nice combination and one of the best pairs at the wing, and no glaring holes in their starting five, but we look to only truly be strong as a scoring team. It is yet to be seen just how effective a good defense team will be in 6.0. I for one will be very interested to see that type of strength on strength match up very soon. I think we're a title contender, but will most likely be the 3 seed in the East. Dem Bobs...
Overall Grade: B+
