Garnett is a coach on the floor, bring your lunchpail to work, blue collar type of player. While he may not be the most spectacular athlete in the draft, he does play very fundamentally sound basketball.
Offensively, he is a very advanced post player. He's got an array of moves to score in the paint and despite playing with below-the-rim athleticism at 6'9", he manages to find a way to score over more athletic and rangy defenders. He has a plethora of tools in his toolkit to score in the post...the turnaround, drop-step, euro-step, you name it, and he has a soft touch to finish...especially when he unleashes the sky hook. He converted over 60% from the field as a senior. He's not the strongest guy on the court, but he's got adequate strength to keep his position on the block and establish good receiving position. He can also step out and hit the jumper with great efficiency and he is an outstanding free throw shooter for a big man. Another great quality is his ability to protect the basketball, as he is one of the least turnover prone players in the draft, especially for a guy who was the focal point of his offense as a senior, he only averaged 1 turnover a game in 36 minutes per game.
Defensively, Garnett is going to be a liability. He doesn't have great athleticism and while he understands post positioning and where to be on the court, he simply just isn't very disruptive and he's also a liability on the glass. He gets beaten by more athletic guys there constantly and he's a below average rebounder on his best days.
Not a lot of upside here because of the athleticism, but certainly some opportunity to be a rotation player with his scoring ability.
