In this article, I wanted to take a look at trades so far in TMBSL. .
Data through trade #575. First, let's look at trades by year. I think there's a general thought that the trade market has cooled a bit. Let's see what the data says!
Looks like there's some truth to it. Trade volume peaked early and has been in decline. I think the early highs are due to the creation draft and unrestricted uppie trades. I do feel like people are more hesitant to move picks for players, so maybe 50-60 trades in a season is the new normal. We shall see!
Next, let's look at count of trades by franchise:
To no one's surprise, Dirt is on top by quite a distance. Sonics in 2nd which I wouldn't have guessed. At the bottom, you have some expected suspects for the GMs with questionable participation. Heat, Chaps, and Trailblazers with the lowest trades among consistently active GMs. Kind of crazy how low the Chaps are.
Let's look closer at Dirt's trades. He's the trade king after all:
Dirt has only not made a trade with the following 4 franchies: Celtics, Pelicans, Rockets, Bulls. He's made 10+ trades with BK, Odin, and Soup.
Here are all trade combinations (dirt or otherwise) that have happened at least 5 times.
Odin seems to have a consistent group of GMs that he trades with at volume. He's all over the top of this list even though he's in 4th place for all trades.
Next, let's look at which trade threads actually received replies. Of the 575 trades, 272 of them only had 1 reply (the other GM accepting). On the other end of the spectrum, we've had 4 threads with 20+ replies.
Bobcats - Suns: Kenny Natt for nothing! Collusion!
Clips - Grizz: Dirt trades a bunch of picks for Wrenn/Joshua Smith. Not really any drama in the comments though despite the volume.
Sixers - Kings: RIP Irush
Magic - Bucks: Josh Peppers to Bucks. Heebs skrumbagged!
Whenever a trade is consummated, the final decision is who should post! I've seen many trades die on the vine when someone says "You post". Let's look at who is posting when trades come to be. 'Yes' indicates the percentage of their trades that the GM makes the trade thread.
Most generous posters are me, Bankz, and Skrouse. We have some GMs who have never posted their own trade thread. What a pathetic group! Fecta and dumptime!
I hope this was an enjoyable read! Let me know if there's anything else you'd like to see from the data.
