TWO OPTIONS: Option 1:
Teams don't have any set number of protection slots. You must pay skrouse (to the new GM) for each player that you protect and the fee doubles with each player you protect. Protection | Cost | Player 1 | 1k | Player 2 | 2k | Player 3 | 4k | Player 4 | 8k | Player 5 | 16k | Player 6 | 32k |
etc. The money that each team pays would go towards funding the bank of the expansion team. So for example, if I had protected 5 players, it would have cost 1 + 2 + 4 + 8 + 16 = 31k skrouse and it would have gone to dump. Or I could have decided to protect only 2 players for 3k. Option 2:
No expansion draft, expansion team is just given a clean slate empty roster, the empty wheel slot, and 200k in their bank.

Option 2 for sure.
Keeps it simple. Get rid of annoying exercises that hardly even benefits the expanding team.

Why don't we just follow the current rules as written? Then there are no issues.

I don't feel strongly either way, I like the expansion process, worked fine several times in 5.0. People only seem to be bitching now about how this was was executed, which to me was a following the rules problem.
I think adding option 2 as a third option for a new team could be fine. So they get to pick, take over, expansion, or clean slate.

I actually really liked Option 1 I think it helps the new GM out instead of existing GMs. In the current format, existing GMs are rewarded financially if they trade excess protection slots. This allows a team to protect however many guys they want from the new GM, but rewards the new GM financially at least.

Why don't we just follow the current rules as written? Then there are no issues. Can we get clarity on the rules? Seems that our Commissioner is easily confused on his written word. Maybe we need more thorough rules, ensure clarity on everything.

Ok so if we're expanding again we should lock this down
change seems to have a slight lead at this point.

the only problem with expansion is we need a time for when the picks are to be made rather than when protections are due. and then stick to it. protections due 30 min prior to expansion, if picks are made prior to that lol oh well, dont do that.
contraction is also fine

could just do the old fashioned thing where the gm just takes over the empty team and gets an amnesty and skrouse, pretty sure there was never an issue with that, but we love to change shit that's not broken

I just don't see what the benefit of expansion drafts are. We go through a fair amount of trouble, and the payoff is minimal (dump got one half-way decent prospect out of it).
Just give the new GM a lump sum of Skrouse to get them started imo. Less work for everyone and the new GM arguably gets more benefit out of this approach too (depending what the lump sum is).

What if we eliminate the expansion draft but still did a contraction and gave the new GM the first pick in the contraction draft?
They could still get a blank team to fill with FAs like dump did and like 100K?
We would just need to make sure that the players on the contraction team aren't lost like what happened with Bass.
