The pride of the Southland (Conference), Dumars is taking a serious step up in uniform design by matriculating from McNeese State to TMBSL. Dumars is a very good athlete and a very strong young man who was likely headed towards a college football career before a big hit in his junior season led him from being a defensive back to being a combo guard. That late start in basketball led him to McNeese State where he picked up the game incredibly quickly and shows a ton of long-term potential.
Dumars quickly developed his basketball fundamentals after arriving at McNeese State. Arriving without a ton of bad habits from playing a lot of basketball at a young age, he shows an already advanced jump shot and has very clean shooting mechanics. He was over 85% from the free throw line his final season of college and does a very good job of squaring his shoulders to the basket and elevating when shooting. He's got the handle and quickness to create space for himself to shoot and should have the ability to easily expand his game to the 3 point line at the next level based on what he's shown in college, where he sunk plenty of mid-range and out jump shots without benefit of the three point line. Dumars also showed great development in his game around the basket as a senior, finally becoming much more efficient in the restricted area after playing as more of a head down guy who just attacked and hoped to get fouled his first three seasons in college. He does have the strength to fight through contact and does do a good job of getting to the foul line though.
Dumars has a passable handle for a point guard at the next level and while he has improved as a passer throughout his college career, he definitely still isn't an elite or really even good passer of the basketball yet... he may struggle to create offense for his teammates at times and may be best suited at shooting guard if that skill doesn't continue to develop. The problem is that he doesn't possess elite size for a 2 guard and scouts speculate he doesn't have the length to match up well with a lot of TMBSL shooting guards. The good news is with his strength and quickness, he showed he could compensate for that lack of length and lock up much larger players on the perimeter, where he was his teams go-to wing stopper. Some scouts still question if that translates against TMBSL athletes, but Dumars has never let his size get in his way yet. He showed great work producing steals for his team and had over 2 per game as a senior. He's not a slouch on the boards either.
There may be questions about if he can be an elite point or shooting guard right out of the box based on those deficiencies, but he should be able to grow into either position and with some development could turn into a really good point guard. He also has the athleticism and work ethic to continue to develop at the next level.
