Byron Scott comes to TMBSL after a somewhat disappointing end to what started as a very promising college career. After a big Sophomore season where he led the Sun Devils to a 24-4 season with a disappointing round of 32 exit to 7 seed Kansas, he missed what should have been his Junior season in 1982 before losing costar Fat Lever to the pros and disappointingly finishing 19-14 in his final season in Tempe.
What a TMBSL franchise will get in Byron Scott is a combo guard that can provide a scoring spark. Despite not having the benefit of the three point line, Scott shows the potential to score at all three levels at the next level. While a little inconsistent with his stroke in college and struggled a bit at the FT line at times even, but the fundamentals are there to be a very consistent, clean jump shooter who can stretch a defense beyond the three point line. He is also excellent at using his quickness to navigate into the paint, and he has a nice euro step and floater among a couple of other tools to finish in the trees. Scott has a good handle but can sometimes get sloppy with his passes when he looks to kick out of his drives.
On the defensive end, he can be a bit of a gambler. He may not always stay in front of his defender, but he did show active hands at the college level, jumping passing lanes and helping on defense to pick up a couple of cheap blocked shots. We shall see if that continues at the next level or if he becomes more disciplined and plays within the team concept.
