In this article, I'd like to take a look at the State of Uppies through the 3006 season. The source of this is the Improvements History thread, so might be off/missing a few items, but overall should still give a good lay of the land.
To start, let's take a look at overall improvements by attribute:
No surprise, Inside Scoring at the top with no close 2nd. Jump shot #2, and it's entirely from Uppies. Strength/Quickness at #3 and #4 due to camps. Surprised to see how low Shot Blocking is. Basically hasn't been boosted at all.
Next, let's look at upgrades by position.
Center by far at the top, then we have a middle class of PF, PG, SF, and then SG the clear caboose. I think this makes sense with the Inside Scoring Meta. Interesting how level PF, PG, and SF are. Perhaps part of the "weakness" of the listed SG's is that they aren't upgraded as much as other positions?
Now, wanted to show upgrades by position by attribute
This does shed some light on why Centers are most upgraded. Seems like the gap is due to the Shot Blocking cap as Centers have had 150 more uppies in Shot Blocking than PFs. Centers also get more Rebounding improvements but that seems attributable to camps.
Interesting that every position has used the -10 passing camp
Next, let's look just at the camps:
Strength camp by far at the top which surprises me a bit. I guess that goes hand-in-hand with the Inside Scoring meta. Perimeter Defense being 4th is a surprise to me.
To frame up the next one, I had thoughts about how we could potentially change Uppies. One that came to mind to me was limiting uppies to +10 per a given attribute while also loosening up caps (since you wouldn't really need caps as much if you can only give +10 at most). I think this is desirable because I feel like prospects trend towards becoming clones in terms of the key scoring grades (Inside/Jump Shot) as everyone tries to push them to the caps. And when you can use +30 however you want, you can often get it done.
So basically all uppies in excess of +10 are going to Inside Scoring. Rule change would have a small effect on jump shot, handling, D-Reb. But would have a drastic change on how we upgrade Inside Scoring.
In conclusion, the State of Uppies is STRONG. Let me know what you guys think.
