Dee-Lightful, worth the price of admission. This lightning quick point guard comes to TMBSL after a four-year career in the Sun Belt for Jacksonville University. While Dee Brown doesn't have a ton of awards or a resume of carrying a team to success like many of the other players in this class, he does have a skillset that many scouts find appealing while there are some question marks about how he translates to TMBSL. The biggest question marks will revolve around how his size translates to the next level. He's a smaller athlete, compact but quick and explosive, and he faced only marginal competition in college. It's the same question about many small school guys...how do they stack up when their athleticism isn't so much more elite than everyone around them and when they have to go head to head with more athletes who are longer and stronger?
At Jacksonville, Brown was the alpha dog of his team for his final two years. He initiated all the offense and was relied upon to be one of the primary scoring options. Because of that, some scouts wonder if he has the passing ability to truly be a point guard at the next level or if he makes more sense as a combo guard that can get buckets off the bench. Either way, he has a tremendous handle and plays very low to the ground which enables him to get to wherever he wants in the paint. He can finish with the teardrop over taller defenders and has a good understanding of how to use the rim to shield himself from help-side defense. Scouts worry if he can make the adjustment to taller, longer, and springier defenders in the paint, but he's been working around a lack of elite size for his whole career with problem so far. He has a great pull-up jumper that he also uses to devastating effect because of his ability to leverage defenders and then stop on a dime and elevate. He came on significantly as a shooter in his final two years in college and made over 40% on 3+ attempts from 3 those final two years. As he gets to the next level and has to deal with stronger defenders keeping him out at bay and out of the paint, you may see him take more opportunities as a catch and shoot specialist. Defensively, Brown is a threat to get underneath you or around you for a quick steal at any time and averaged 3 takeaways a game as a senior. He also showed tremendous engagement on the boards for a player of his stature (averaging over 7 rebounds per game his final 2 college seasons) but scouts wonder if he can replicate that in TMBSL at his size.
