We were talking today in shout about how the current season's crop of under 25 stars is just complete garbage, so I looked back through the LeBron era to look at the track record of players in that age bracket who had the most regular season win shares on their team, and you gotta tip your hat, shout was right on the money.
In this 18 season span (yes, LeBron's NBA career is old enough to vote), there were on average 11 such players.
This season there were 6.
The lowest of any season.
In this 18 season span, there were on average 5 such players on teams seeded eight or better.
This season there were 2.
The lowest of any season.
In this 18 season span, there were on average 3 such players on teams seeded four or better.
This season there were 0.
The LOWEST.
Of ANY season.
None.
Zip.
SQUADOUCHE.
Literally every other season literally managed at least literally two.

Okay, but maybe this metric isn't actually catching the stars-in-waiting. Maybe this is a bunch of math hokum from some nerds in basements. Let's look at the players topping each of those categories, starting with just young players who led their teams in Win Shares...
Sure, we've got some empty kilocalorie good stats bad teams box score omphaloskeptics on there, but we've also got first ballot lead pipe take this lock to the bank Hall of Famers in Chris Bosh and LeBron James.
Let's look at who got the most seasons having the most Win Shares on essentially a playoff team...
Now we're sifting some will in the winnows. What about the most seasons leading a top half o' the bracket playoff team?
King me.
But like... him.
But you can't. He's already the king! You can't double king a single king! You can't double king a single king! Lloyd! Lloyd!
It's also pretty cool how those fellas hand off chronologically if we look at their first All-NBA teams: 05 James, 07 Howard, 10 Durant, 16 Leonard, 19 Jokic. All we're missing is someone drafted in 05 or 06 who made their first All-NBA team in 2013, but whose career was famously cut short due to injury, easily the most tragic loss of NBA history since the turn of the millennium.
