Biyombo is somewhat typical of prospects coming from Africa in that he's got all of the athletic potential in the world but is new to the game relative to his American and European peers, so his technical abilities are somewhat lacking. He's an extremely long player for his height, with his wingspan measuring in at 7'7". That with some of the explosive characteristics, the leaping, quickness, ability to run the floor, means he will at least profile well as a defender at the next level. Bismack is very strong for his age and has a well developed body already at 240 lbs. Scouts rave about his intangibles, pointing to his hustle and never quit attitude, scouts say that he's a very high character player.
He needs some more experience working with teammates within a defensive scheme, but the tools are there to be very successful. He's a hustle player who never quits on a possession, and that hustle carries over to the defensive boards as well. His long arms will allow him to block a lot of shots, but he's got to work on his instincts as he can be baited into the air now by a pump fake. He has the foot speed to be able to drift out to the perimeter and his long arms and quick hands should cause some havoc in the passing lanes.
The place where he really needs some work is his offensive skills. His jump shot is a work in progress, he finishes well around the rim but he lacks confidence in his left hand and can be easily defended by forcing him away from his right. He isn't a great passer of the basketball and he isn't an elite handler of the ball. He's not got very soft hands which complicates his ability to serve as a finisher in the pick and roll. He may be best deployed as an off-the-ball screener in an outside focus offense where he brings a ton of value as a defender and rebounder. His lack of perimeter ability means he's often in the lane looking for second chance opportunities...if he can finish them.
