The Value of a Bankz Coin: East Edition
Entering year six of 6.0 I wanted to take some time to take a look at roster value around the league. This article series is my take on roster value based purely on the top single pick return a player could get in a trade. Obviously most trades have multiple picks but that top tier piece is what the trade is built around. I broke down the value of picks in the following ranges. 1.1 stands alone as the top tier, those are the elite players in the league. Next I have Super Star, All-Star, Good Player and Role Players. Picks range from 1.1 to 1.20 and are split between those brackets of players. Obviously this is my opinion based on past returns, current performance of player, contract and finally a little bit of future production is taken into consideration. Future draft picks are not valued in this article as we wanted to focus just on the players at the moment.
Atlanta Hawks
Elite:
Superstar:
All-Star:
Good:
Role: Bo Outlaw, Jon Diebler
Value: 10 Bankz Coin
Breakdown:
Bo Outlaw has high potential and is a hidden gem. The potential to be a pretty good big man is evident. How good is the question? One I wouldn’t be willing to pay top draft value for. Diebler is a rotation guy that a contender may give a mid to late first for.
Carolina Cougars
Elite: Luke Maye
Superstar: Kiki Vandeweghe
All-Star: Lloyd Sharrar, Adam Haluska
Good: Steve Stipanovich
Role: Russell Cross, Raymond Felton
Value: 77 Bankz Coin
Breakdown:
One of the most valuable franchises in the league. Luke Maye is the crown jewel of this roster without question. Kiki isn’t far off and if he was signed long term would fall into the elite status for a trade return. Even as an expiring I do believe he’s worth a pretty penny. Sharrar, Haluska and Stip would all return good to great value as well.
Charlotte Bobcats
Elite:
Superstar: Shawn Kemp Jr., Wayne Estes
All-Star:
Good: Joel Anthony, Sean Williams, Randy Wittman, Bootsy Thornton, Stewart Granger
Role: Shawn Bradley, Taurean Green
Value: 59 Bankz Coin
Breakdown:
With Odin’s tinkering of Estes now for a third time I believe he’s slipped down the value chart. I was tempted to put him into the All-Star level but I’m holding out some hope this last tinker brings him back to old form. I’ve been a fan of Kemp since day one. He was the big man I targeted early on in sim along with Gates (good scouting department in philly huh?) and he’s fully blossomed into the best player on the Bobcats and maybe into the elite level of the league. Just as I was tempted to move Estes down a slot I almost moved Kemp into elite status. Anthony, Williams, Wittman and Bootsy would all return good value in deals. Granger might be a role player, again another close call. Bradley looks to need more TLC but it's early.
Charlotte Hornets
Elite:
Superstar:
All-Star:
Good: Amir Johnson, Vin Baker, Rodney Rogers
Role:Todd Mundt
Value: 16 Bankz Coin
Breakdown:
Vin is off to a successful start to his career. As a player I scouted this seems more to be a case of a good player on a shit roster vs the next elite player in our league. Still a starting point for one of the worst run franchises in our league. Amir Johnson could be the player with the most upside on the roster and Rodgers is intriguing. Mundt could be a nice pickup for a playoff contender looking to add a body for the playoffs.
Miami Heat
Elite: Jamal Mashburn
Superstar: Chris Webber
All-Star:
Good: Ersan Ilyasova, Deron Williams
Role: Stanko Barac,
Value: 61 Bankz Coin
Breakdown:
GM Duc has waited for this moment for some time now. After shipping off Gates early in 6.0 he plotted his journey and finally it paid off in spades. Mashburn may turn out to be the best wing in 6.0 in a few seasons and I would give up a 1.1 and more for the young lad. Webber was 1.1 in the 3005 class and I believe he is worth that long term. He had what looks to be a nice TC and with the proper upgrades could very well be an Elite player. Upgrades haven’t been posted yet but I wouldn’t argue against him being in the Elite zone if one would choose so. Williams. Ersan are good pieces and Barac is a nice under the radar player. Future is very bright for the Heat.
Washington Bullets
Elite:
Superstar:
All-Star:
Good: James Ray
Role:Carl Landry
Value: 6 Bankz Coin
Breakdown:
This roster is clearly looking to the future and the draft to fix its issues. Shipping off any talent it lands for draft capital. They recently picked up James Ray in free agency and I bet he’s shipped off on day 60. Ray has good value and I could see a top 15 pick coming to the Bullets in return. Landry can score and do nothing else. He’s not really elite at what he does either but good. I’m sure someone may want him for a late season push.
Orlando Magic
Elite:
Superstar:
All-Star: Bryon Russell
Good: Marcin Gortat
Role: Rich Manning, Ian Mahinmi
Value: 17 Bankz Coin
Breakdown:
Russell looks pretty good after some upgrades and a TC. I wasn’t as high on Russell as others during the draft but it looks like I was wrong on the young man. A long term piece for the future. Gortat is slowly turning into a very good big for a playoff contender. Manning has scoring upside and Ian more of a defender. Good pieces not great but part of a building block in Orlando.
Brooklyn Nets
Elite:
Superstar: Larry Smith, Doug Wrenn
All-Star: Joakim Noah, Jared Dudley,
Good: Ervin Johnson, Mike Conley
Role: Dimitris Diamantidis, Juwan Staten
Value: 64 Bankz Coin
Breakdown:
BKs ongoing roster churn as he manages the cap now and into the future has been solid. His best assets imho are Larry Smith and flip a coin between Wrenn and Noah. Wrenn is probably better suited in an outside offense. As his splits are noticeable, Smith may be ranked higher if BK wasn’t busy trying to over hype Johnson and if Smith wasn’t an expiring. Dudley is very good but doesn’t seem like TC improved him as I liked. Conley and Johnson are solid but never going to be elite guys. DD probably isn’t really worth a spot on the list given his age and contract but maybe someone finds value as they make a playoff push. Wont waste too much time on Staten as his top 10 price tag is way above where I would think any sane minded individual would pay for him and that contract.
Chicago Bulls
Elite:
Superstar: Bojan Dubljevic, Hank Gathers
All-Star:
Good: Chief Kickingstallionsims
Role: Martynas Andriuskevicius
Value: 43 Bankz Coin
Breakdown:
In a bull market I could see Bojan and Hank being a smidge higher but right now draft capital is tight and I feel like we are turning into a buyers advantage. Still Bojan and Hank are well within the top tier of the positions they play. Chief has value but getting older and that deal isn’t fantastic, but a productive player.
Indiana Pacers
Elite: Clyde Drexler
Superstar:
All-Star: Andrew Bynum
Good: Darrell Griffith, Ashraf Amaya, Derek Harper, Rick Mahorn
Role: Ramon Sessions
Value: 61 Bankz Coin
Breakdown:
Drexler is a monster and on the best contract in the league. He may be the most valuable single trade chip the league has when you combine those two factors. Actually scratch that... he is the most valuable asset in the league and if a player would be worth a 1.1 + its him. Bynum is growing into a player who by his first max contract could be in the Elite status. Griffith, Amaya, Harper and Mahorn are just good players with good value and I think Sessions is sneaky talented for the right system.
New York Knicks
Elite:
Superstar:
All-Star:
Good: Milovan Rakovic
Role:
Value: 5 Bankz Coin
Breakdown:
Milo is currently being shopped by Ank as he plans to offload any semi decent talent before his run on 1.1’s arrives. Milo is a decent guy on a shit roster with highly inflated numbers because of that. He’s a less talented Green. I think Milo could land a somewhat decent first rounder. Outside of that this roster is bare.
Philadelphia 76ers
Elite: Antoine Carr, Dale Ellis
Superstar:
All-Star: Brandon Bass
Good: Joshua Smith,
Role: Johan Petro, Larry Drew Sr.
Value: 77 Bankz Coin
Breakdown:
After sweating out re-signings the Sixers were fortunate to retain the core of the back to back sim league titles in Carr and Ellis. Ellis is right behind Drexler as one of the best contracts in the league. Carr is a two time playoff MVP. Brandon Bass is very promising and living up the hype Bankz gave him as Carr 2.0. Old Man Smith is still productive and his ws/48 haven’t slipped with age. Petro and Drew serve a role for specific offenses.
Pittsburgh Pipers
Elite: Martell Webster
Superstar:
All-Star:
Good: Sergio Llull, Yi Jianlian
Role: Aaron Brooks
Value: 41 Bankz Coin
Breakdown:
The Pipers are building a very nice roster. Able to retain Llull this offseason on a decent deal although a bit short on length it's still a minor knock overall to one of Ian Boyds most favorite shout topics. Webster is an elite talent on the wing. I labeled him Ellis 2.0 and I believe in time he will match and possibly surpass him. Yi is a very talented scoring big, I wish he would rebound a smidge better but i’m not turning him down if available. I think Brooks could start in the right offense.
Cleveland Cavaliers
Elite:
Superstar: Rodney McCray
All-Star: Kevin McHale
Good:
Role: C.J. Miles, Wes Matthews Sr.
Value: 32 Bankz Coin
Breakdown:
Sap was able to land McCray in free agency and already seems to be shopping him. I believe he should return a very nice package of players. I don’t have him in the elite status but likely should. I guess the hesitation is how he will play with elite talent around him. We may find out shortly. McHale is very good big, some of his production has dipped thanks to playing next to better talent in McCray and high usage point guard in Wes Mathews. Had he not been an expiring player I likely have him in the Superstar return. CJ Miles has flashed potential and could be worth slightly more but for now I think he could get a decent first in return. Wes Mathews turnovers are still a nightmare and really hurt his value. If somehow those were cut by ¼ to ⅓ he would skyrocket in value.
Toronto Raptors
Elite:
Superstar:
All-Star:
Good: Roosevelt Bouie, Wayne Robinson, Le'Bryan Nash
Role:
Value: 15 Bankz Coin
Breakdown:
Not a ton to love on this Raptors squad, the best is still to come as high draft picks are not far off in the distance. Bouie, Robinson are solid players who could return a pick in the high teens. Father time may be catching up to Nash and I slid him down a notch. These guys seem more like final touches to playoff teams vs a core to build with in the future and I would imagine all three might be shipped off in time.
Elite:
Superstar:
All-Star:
Good:
