Gallinari has all the tools to score points in TMBSL. He is a long, crafty player and a very sound shooter and his range extends to well beyond the three point line. His high release makes contesting his jump shots a near impossibility, and that makes him lethal in the midrange and in as he has an assortment of stepbacks, fadeaways, and turnaround moves. Scouts question whether his efficacy from the midrange in will translate when he's playing TMBSL defenders rather than the inconsistent quality of defenses he's faced in Europe, but the tools are there for sure and at worst, his shooting will translate and he can at least be a major threat there. His major struggle will probably revolve around his dribble drive game as he has tended to struggle when working against more physical opponents like he'll see in TMBSL. His handle is good for a man of his size and he possesses great court vision and passing ability, but against those types of defenders it may keep him off-balance and keep him from being as effective off the dribble. Despite having adequate strength and the length to finish inside, Gallinari is more of a perimeter player at this stage. Despite having a soft touch in the interior and converting the chances he does get in the paint, he doesn't have much of a back to the basket game to initiate his own offense there at this time.
Defensively, Gallinari has much less upside. He gambles a lot and plays rather undisciplined. The problem is those gambles aren't very fruitful as he doesn't have the elite athleticism to turn his leaps into the passing lane into profitable transition opportunities. His foot speed would make him sticking as a stretch 4 the ideal spot for him but his average strength and more finesse tendencies leave him more as a 3 at this stage. His efforts on the board don't match what he should be capable of at his height as a perimeter player, although he isn't a liability there. Many just hoped he would be exceptional there and he's only been average to this point.
