The first of two twin Lopez towers to be reviewed in this class, Robin is the more mobile, agile, and athletic of the two twins. Rather than being very similar, the two brothers have more contrasting styles on the court, with Robin being the defensive ace of the two. While Brook was the more finesse of the two twins, Robin is naturally very strong and a nitty gritty guy who does the dirty work, hits the boards hard (especially on offense), and serves as the engine that will run a very good defense. He set records for shot-blocking as a freshman at Stanford and followed it up with a strong showing in his sophomore season as well. He has a real chance to be a factor as a shot-blocker at the next level with his mobility and leaping ability.
And while playing together apparently afforded Brook the opportunity to focus on developing an array of offensive maneuvers to set himself up to score while Robin did the dirty work on defense, none of that offensive ability has rubbed off on Robin. While he does use his quickness and leaping ability to finish off easy looks around the basket that have been set up for him by teammates, he doesn't really have any back to the basket game to speak of and has shown very little ability to create his own shot. He's limited at best as a jump shooter and hits barely over half of his free throws so not a lot of optimism there without some serious work to make strides on his form. He hasn't shown very much ability as a passer when he gets the ball in his hands, and he will probably be best served at the next level serving as a screen man for off-the-ball action. His best work on the offensive end is done when he crashes the boards and is able to convert really easy opportunities from there.
