Hardaway has received some lofty comparisons from scouts and is highly touted for his versatility. He has the height to play against small forwards but the rare ball-handling ability for a guy his size to stick as a point guard. Even when scouts pick his game apart the only weakness they point to for him is on the defensive end and they say his issues there are minor.
Offensively, he can play PG, SG, and SF at a high level. He is a threat with the ball in his hands at all times. He isn't a great shooter yet, but he's good enough and he is aggressive enough taking his shots that defenders have to respect him from deep. That opens up a ton of space for him to use his quickness and ball-handling ability to penetrate and make plays. He's a willing passer, but sometimes gets too aggressive trying to create as he attacks the basket. He can finish inside with the floater or take the ball all the way to the rim, showing the explosiveness to finish among the trees and enough strength to finish strong through contact and get to the free throw line. While Penny has all the tools to be a superstar offensively, one thing that scouts do point out is that he'll need to find ways to get more consistent and efficient from all three levels in TMBSL to truly become a special player.
Defensively, he isn't a liability despite what scouts have said about this being a minor weakness. His length and athleticism allows him to create a lot of disruption for the other team, producing a lot of steals and blocks. While he has some lapses in focus that cause him to get out of position, he does have the length and agility to recover and make up for it and those quick hands often make up for some sloppy footwork. He also uses his size to his advantage to help his squad on the boards and will likely be one of the best rebounding PGs in the league.
