Houston puts the shooting in shooting guard. In four years as a starter at Tennessee, Houston was amazingly consistent. He scored just over 20 ppg each of his four seasons on the strength of making about 2.5 threes per game on around 6.5 attempts for a shooting percentage of 42.4% from three point range. Houston also hit from mid-range and shows a similar silky stroke at the free throw line. He may have the cleanest shooting mechanics coming into TMBSL of any prospect we've yet to see and he also has shown the ability to hit from very deep range above the break, which will help stretch defenses and make his teammates better. He'll need to be elite from that range to continue to be a 20+ ppg scorer at the next level because he's far more inconsistent with his ability to convert once in the paint. He'll be much better as a catch and shoot option to help create spacing at the next level, though he can be a threat with the ball in his hands as well. He has a good enough handle to get past over-aggressive defenders closing out to him on the perimeter and he's willing and extremely adept at hitting the extra pass when a better shot is available than his.
Houston will need to make his bones with his shooting because his work on the defensive end was not anything to write home about in Knoxville. Scouts say that his athleticism projects as only average at the next level and that will limit his upside as a defender. At best, he'll be serviceable enough to be able to make it into crunch-time lineups but the downside is a little more dicey. He also shows little effort on the boards, averaging only 4 per game as a collegiate player.
