Lynch is the type of player where "small forward" is an apt descriptor. He plays a lot like a smaller power forward who has been pushed out to the wing because he just doesn't have the size to continue to bang inside. He's a decent enough athlete, he just doesn't have the length and lower body strength of larger athletes at the next level who will play the 4 but he does have the quickness to move out to the wing.
Offensively, he's a low post scorer when he gets offense, but he's a very passive player that will play within your system. Most of his points will come off backdoor cuts and scoring on putbacks (he's extremely active and aggressive on the offensive boards). He is crafty at getting into the paint and has soft hands to catch and finish, but he could stand to have a bit better touch in the paint and convert more efficiently. He will hit a mid-range jumper if you feed it to him but don't expect many catch and shoot threes as he attempted all of 32 shots from deep in four years of college. He has a decent enough stroke but just not a lot of confidence. He only made 65% of his free throws in college despite having decent mechanics. That confidence will need some work.
Defensively, he'll be an asset. He plays smart team defense and was well-coached in Chapel Hill by Dean Smith. He used his quick hands to force some steals and even block some shots and he showed significant growth in his defensive game each year in school. He is a hustle player on this end and also contributes by helping to clean up the boards, as he threated to get over 10 rebounds per game as a senior at UNC. In his three years where he was mostly a starter, he never grabbed less than 7 and a half boards per game and that effort should carry over to the next level.
