After spending 5 years plying his trade in the SWAC, with one year at Alcorn State before transferring to Jackson State, Hunter comes to TMBSL to take his game to the next level. Hunter was a scoring machine in college, mostly accomplished by being a volume jump shooter who averaged nearly 10 three point attempts per game in his final two years of college. While he stroked threes at an unprecedented level, he still needs some major work on his shooting stroke. Some scouts claim he only made about 35% of his threes in college because of the level of difficulty on some of his shots, but his free throw shooting would seem to prove otherwise. He was only a career 70% free throw shooter but to his credit did make some major improvements in his final season as he jumped from 63.7% from the charity stripe as a junior to 77.1% as a senior.
Hunter produced most of his offense off of the dribble as he was deadly at hitting the pull-up jumper from three and the mid-range. His shaky handle kept him from being an effective driver, not to mention that he isn't a spectacular finisher in the paint. He can get points there, he just isn't as efficient as you'd hope. He did use his strength to get to the free throw line pretty regularly for a point guard, though, so that will help his efficiency somewhat. Hunter will need to adjust his mentality at the next level, as he'll finally have teammates that are as good as him and they'll want him to pass the ball more willingly than he did at Jackson State.
On the defensive end, Hunter will be a huge asset even if his scoring doesn't quite translate to a higher level of competition. He has the athleticism and quick hands to be a problem for opposing PGs and he has the length and strength on his 6'2" frame to even switch onto some wing scorers and keep them in check. He is a bit of gambler and will produce a lot of steals and transition opportunities. He isn't a total zero on the boards and does make an effort there when he isn't pushing the pace on offense the other way.
