In this article I will be detailing whom I think are the Most valuable players in the league. The factors I'm considering is 1. Productivity 2. Contract 3. Age. I didn't consider Rookies just drafted
1. Antoine Carr PF 23 6'9'' 225 A- C C- B- B- B - Sixers
Antoine Carr may only be on a 2 year deal, but his Age Puts him #1 on my list. He finished 2nd this year in win shares and his P/TSA was 1.216 pretty phenomenal. He's an average Rebounder but he still has room to go. His Turnovers are excellent for a scoring threat.
2. Bojan Dubljevic C 29 6'9'' 254 A- A- D C B B - Knicks
Bojan is 29 and only on a 2 year deal, but imo is the top asset in the league #1 in winshares . P/TSA of 1.225 and rebounds are great. Sometimes gets into foul trouble . Doesn't wow anyone on the defensive end but his overall production through 3 years puts him on top for me.
3. Wayne Estes SF 25 6'6'' 215 A- C+ D+ C A- C - Bobcats
Wayne imo , had a much worse year than I had anticipated this year. He shot worse than the previous years and I figured his Rebs would go up but they didn't . He's still an elite player but I had him #1 last year and he's not there anymore. He's got 4 years left on his Max deal but it's not "cheap" as we will continue to get established players on cheaper deals via the draft.
4. Clyde Drexler SF 23 6'7'' 215 A- B- B B B- A - Pacers
Clyde took a step back this year in terms of production this year but he was asked to less on a Pacer team that added a ton of talent and didn't improve record wise from the previous year. If you just looked at the roster page and displayed Grades, I think most would have The Pacers #2 or #3 in the East. They have been playing below the level I thought they were capable of but I think Drexler takes a step forward next year and cements himself as an MVP type of player.
5. Antonio Gates SF 26 6'4'' 260 A- C+ B+ C+ A- B - Bucks
Antonio Finished #1 at winshares at SF , but has shown the tendency to be to passive when he needs to Shoot. He's a true triple threat on Offense. His P/TSA is only 1.149 and has shown the ability to play defense just not consistently . Best Reb guy at SF imo GBR
6. Tyreese Breshers PF 26 6'7'' 255 A- C- D C+ C+ B - Chaps
Alot of people thought Breshers was a terrible FA pickup for the Chaps. They were Wrong. Breshers was a legit MVP candidate who puts the ball in the bucket. He produces more Bleals than turnovers . The knock on him is that he's an average rebounder . His P/TSA of 1.201 makes up for it.
7. Dale Ellis SF 24 6'7'' 205 A- C+ D- C C+ B - Sixers
Dale is the 2nd Sixer to make the list. He finished just outside the Top 10 in winshares despite his limited minutes with the addition of Riva. He finished 1st in the league among my qualifiers in P/TSA at 1.286. He's an average defender and rebounder however his lack of turnovers makes him very valuable
8. Ralph Sampson C 24 7'4'' 233 B C D B+ B+ C - Blazers
Ralph came into the league with fantastic grades and has surpassed expectations. 15.2 winshares at Center and his P/TSA of 1.219 make him very valuable. The knock on Sampson is that he won't get much better, but you can't expect that, also TO's are an issue.. Does a little of everything on the defensive end.
9. Devin Williams PF 29 6'9'' 255 B C D+ C A- C - Hawks
Devin Williams isn't "young" anymore and like many others is only on a 2 year deal. He finished 4th in Winshares as a PF this year ,but imo is the most valuable piece on a stacked Hawks team. I'd call him the best rebounder in the league and his P/TSA is 1.226 . He is the best Free throw shooting big man in the league, and was a phenomenal creation pick for JHB. He's the only Hawk on my list but he's got 3-4 very valuable pieces on that roster besides Williams.
10. Lloyd Sharrar C 25 6'10'' 225 B C- D- B- A A - Cougars
Lloyd left Yawn in heartbreaking fashion to do the same thing in Carolina , produce and lose in the playoffs. He finished 3rd at his position in winshares this past year and like Estes is on a 4 year deal (although cheaper ) his P/TSA was 1.154 which is very good and his rebounding rates put him near the top . 1.8 bleals isn't terrific for a guy getting almost 34 minutes a game, but his lack of turnovers make up for that.
11. Luke Maye SF 25 6'8'' 240 A- B C C B- B - Knicks
Luke is the 2nd wheel in New York . He's only 25 but is on a 1 year deal. Ank gave up a decent package to get him and the Knicks 2nd round exit shows you why. He didn't finish top 3 at the position he played in winshares but that's because he played OOP. He's more valuable at SF and if Knicks find a 3rd wheel they will be very tough moving forward.
12. Doug Wrenn SF 25 6'6'' 220 A- C C D B A - Grizz
Doug just signed a Max deal which is huge for the Grizz. Doug finished 3rd at his position in winshares and rebounds at an impressive clip. His downfall is defense, doesn't do much on that end but being able to hide him at SG negates alot of the defensive deficiencies.
13. Kennedy Meeks PF 28 6'9'' 265 A- C C- C C+ C - Chaps
Meeks is the 2nd chap to make the list , his P/TSA of 1.211 was very good but like Breshers his lack of Reb's take him down a notch. Meeks turns it over more than his Counterpart down low and doesn't have the Bleals that Bresher does. Only 1 year left on his deal .
14. Sidney Green PF 24 6'9'' 220 A- C D- C+ C+ B - Kings
Sidney needs to be a starter, Probably the top Scorer in the league if he does. His Turnovers will be an issue when he gets starter minutes. The lack of Bleals is concering and his rebounding needs to be improved. Needs to go to a loving home.
15. Larry Smith PF 23 6'8'' 215 B+ C C+ C B+ B - Nets
Larry Smith , Larry Brown who gives a shit, Smith on this list might surprise some people, but not me folks. He finished just behind Devin Williams in Winshares and had a very good P/TSA of 1.113. I think he will improve on that as he develops. Smith is one of the Top rebounding Bigs in the league and still has 3 years left on his deal. Good pick by BK
16. Hank Gathers SF 28 6'7'' 230 A- C C C+ C+ B - Bulls
Hank was a great addition for the Bulls. He finished 2nd at his position in Winshares and had a P/TSA of 1.174. He's still relatively young and has 2 years left on his deal . He's an average rebounder who doesn't put a ton of effort in on the defensive end.
17. Rodney McCray SF 23 6'7'' 220 B C C B+ B+ A - Spurs
Rodney might be the biggest surprise on the list. His P/TSA is only 1.043 but his age and potential get him on the list. He's an above average Rebounder who has impressive defensive grades. Has Solid passing #'s with limited Turnovers, also can play SG if needed.
18. Moala Tautuaa C 36 6'8'' 249 A- C+ B+ C B C - Mavs
The Oldest player on my list and MVP champion , Moala has proven to be one of the Top Big men in the league. He's getting old and this is pre-tc as he was sent to Germany last year, so hopefully(not) for Soup he holds up. He finished 2nd in Winshares behind Bojan but he will continue to be threat until he retires. He has 2 years left on his deal and many people think he will last those 2 years before he hangs them up
19. James Blackmon Jr. SG 28 6'4'' 190 B+ A- B+ D+ C- C - Pacers
Some might be surprised to see Blackmon on this list. But he took a step forward this year thanks to the Upgrades Dirt put into him. He finished 3rd in winshares at SG and had a P/TSA of 1.145. He doesn't do a ton defensively but who does in this league.
20. Kiki Vandeweghe SF 22 6'8'' 220 B+ C+ C- D+ C B - Cougars
I was torn between Kiki and Michael Brooks for my last spot and ultimately gave the Nod to Kiki because I like 20's more than Bk. Kiki finished with almost 11 winshares and an extremely impressive P/TSA of 1.191. Some scouts cite his lack of doing anything else and lack of future potential as a downfall but he shoots lights out and still has 3 years left on his deal.
Mike O'Koren SF 23 6'7'' 207 B+ C- C C+ C B - Nets
Mike Does not belong on this list.
1. Antoine Carr PF 23 6'9'' 225 A- C C- B- B- B - Sixers
