A two-time national champion, an All-American, the all-time leader in assists at the collegiate level. Also kind of a runt. Hurley brings his prolific passing to the next level now after a decorated four year career of starting in Durham for Coach K's Blue Devils.
Offensively, Hurley is obviously a prolific passer, as evidenced by his record for most career assists in college. He isn't flashy, but he finds good looks for his teammates. Sometimes he can be a bit too aggressive with the passing and be a bit turnover-prone. He's quick and has a passable handle and first step that allows him penetrate and find space in the lane. While he used that space to put up a variety of floaters and finish in the paint in college, scouts suggest he not try that at the next level because he lacks strength and generally just isn't very successful at converting in the lane. That's okay though, because he'll still be a threat to find his teammates for good looks. Off the ball, he'll be a dangerous spot-up option who can use his quickness to get around screens and convert shots from distance. He converted over 40% of his threes in his career and he was a threat when set, when slightly off balance, and off-the-dribble. He's better from deep than the midrange, but that's okay because he was close to elite from distance.
Defensively, Hurley isn't anything to write home about but he isn't a huge liability either. He used his quickness to se some disruption and grab some steals and he does a decent job of staying in front of his man on the perimeter. His lack of strength, though, will allow him to be bullied by some bigger guards at the next level. He also isn't much of an asset on the boards as he's constantly leaking out to look to push the transition game rather than looking to help crash.
