Bynum is a physically unique center prospect with oodles of potential. Scouts call him a truly unique physical specimen in terms of his height, wingspan, and strength. He's already incredibly strong for his age and his frame carries 280 pounds without sacrificing much in the way of agility and coordination or leaping ability. With a professional strength and conditioning program he may be able to still recomp and add a significant amount of good weight to his frame without sacrificing any of that athleticism.
While the tools are all here to be a HOF-level player one day, Bynum is still incredibly green as an 18 year old. His athleticism and size alone has meant that he's never had to rely on any type of fundamentals to be a scoring machine to this point in his career. He doesn't have much of a jump shot and he's one of those center prospects whose hand size makes his free throw attempts look awkward. That's okay because he likely won't play anywhere but on the block with his size. He'll aggressively attack the rim both with off-the-ball cuts and by gobbling up offensive rebounds at an incredible rate. That will lead to a lot of buckets, but the back-to-the-basket game will need some work for him to be an elite scorer at the next level. Fortunately for him, his handle is very advanced relative to his other skills and that combined with his strength should allow him to fight through double teams without being incredibly turnover-prone.
Bynum will arrive with the ability to alter some shots. His lateral quickness, leaping ability, and natural instincts will make sure of that. However, with more development he may be truly elite as a rim protector. His size will make him an absolute bully as a man defender in the post, but he'll likely have to remain close to the paint as he'd be a liability trying to stay in front of opponents on the perimeter. Just as he does on offense, he shows great potential as a defensive rebounder, showing a great instinct for positioning and having the athleticism to get to rebounds outside of his area.
