Dirt's Test Sims Canceled? (296 views)

I didn't realize how many people  dislike the test software articles and podcast. Would you like me to stop? I don't want to be doing stuff that GMs don't like. Let me know either way.

Things to think about.

A: Test TC is random and only once. It is not what happens in the sim and i have no clue what the odds are of having the same on my test.

B: Stats in the software are no where near the same as in this league. PGs are literally impossible to test. Players volume will always be different in our league. Even FG% is extremely hard to read.

C: You may think you can manipulate stats to get your guy to be a Mentor. Yes this is true but only if you get the same TC as you would in this league.

It doesn't bother me and I like that it's become your "lane", and the sharing of articles and whatnot afterwards is fun.

I also don't like 5-6 other GMs running similar tests on their own.

My thoughts on this are not consistent and I realize that.

Again, it's a situation where I think everyone just needs to be an adult about it and not try and abuse the system, which I don't think you're doing. I mean, you drafted Wes Matthews.

I passed on Brooks too. Wes is a prime example of why I don't have issues with Scouts. There are a lot of options on the board and you get what you want in a league with the Wheel.

Also, In the pod I gave out actually category numbers because the scouts were shared free in the forum. Next Draft i will do a podcast on stats if people want and I will not open the players and speak about what they improved or declined.

I will say this. I think running sims is a competitive advantage. I think some may use it to their advantage while others may not. I also think it is a slippery slope and I think regardless of what happens those that are using it for personal gain will continue to do so after. Dirt I feel that you do operate inside of integrity as demonstrated by your past actions. However, I think running live sims on a pod and taking live questions on potential draft picks is getting information that others do not have. The issue is this is a no win situation as those that have the software will continue to do what they do. Dirt I think your article is helpful and insightful.

This is why I asked for us not to run sims on players that haven't been drafted. It wasn't seen in time for this pod, but fortunately we only saw 2-3 undrafted players discussed briefly.

I think that should be the standard moving forward and in all things sim league. If Ian drafted KD or I drafted Hawes, they're already locked in on our respective teams and I'm fine with Dirt running whatever test sims he wants.

I should also add, with the way scouting is currently structured, he (and anyone with the software) can run the tests on those guys before they're picked and give himself an advantage. That much would be impossible to prevent (the best we can do is ask that they don't abuse the system). At least with the article that gets shared some of that competitive advantage is lessened because the information is becoming more accessible to others.

I'm frankly more concerned with BK now having the software, an old league file, and building systems where he's auto-simming hundreds of seasons at a time and can establish probabilities.

you don't need the software to run TCs though, all the information you need to do so is in the mechanics thread

i don't think the 5.0 file was a big deal. A little frustrating but he could do the same thing in a standard file.
