Williams comes to TMBSL after leading Illinois to a tremendous 37-2 season that ended with a five point loss to the North Carolina Tar Heels in the national final. The leader of veteran group that was tough on both ends of the courts, this team reflected William's personality as they were incredibly tough and spread the ball around unselfishly. They were engaged on both ends and they played with a high basketball IQ that reflected their high level of experience at the college level.
Williams especially is an exceptionally strong floor general of a point guard. His physique is a little sloppy and that lends to having below average footspeed and vertical explosiveness for a TMBSL PG, but his handle and strength make up for that lack of explosiveness. He is equally adept with both his right and left hands and he has an exceptional crossover move that he uses to penetrate into the paint with impunity. Though he isn't fast on the top end, his change of direction is sudden and he is very talented at getting his man moving before stopping on a dime and nailing the mid-range jumper. His shooting stroke is smooth, making 37% of his threes on more than 4 attempts per game, but he needs to work on improving his consistency at the free throw line.
He is an exceptional defender at the college level, using his strength and good footwork and positioning to bully opposing players. His lack of footspeed may be a bit more of a liability at the next level, but just like his offensive game, he seems to be able to make up for that with his high basketball IQ. He is always in the right spot and won't sacrifice his positioning to gamble for steals or blocks.
