Good afternoon. It's been a while so I thought I would take a look at Training Camp and how it has been going for everyone again.
First, let's look at the TC that occurred yesterday: 3028.
Next, let's take a look at TC results by team going back to the beginning of 6.0:
In case there was still any doubt about whether or not age and potential correlate with TC results, let's look specifically at those breakdowns:
We can clearly see that the better your potential, the better TC you can expect to have. We also see this with age.
Highest Career TC Growth by Player (only includes seasons on a roster)
Worst Career TC Decline by Player (only includes seasons on a roster)
First, let's look at the TC that occurred yesterday: 3028.
- The Pipers had the best TC in TMBSL, going +15 as a team. The Pacers were 2nd at +12.
- It was interesting that the Pipers had the best TC despite having the 3rd oldest roster and 5th worst average potential.
- The Raptors had the worst TC at -6 total despite having a lot of young guys on the roster. Overall, their age and potential are still pretty bad due to some of the veterans they have hanging around.
- I added the Average Age and Potential GPA columns to the chart.
- Potential GPA is just the letter grade of potential translated into a GPA like they did back in school. So A = 4, B = 3, C = 2, D = 1, F = 0 and then it is averaged across the team.
- The Amigos had the oldest roster and the worst potential but only went -1. The Hornets tied them for worst potential and went +6.
- The Lakers had the best potential and only went +1.
- The Sonics appeared to have the most unlucky TC as they had a young roster and the 3rd best potential but went -5 as a team in TC.
Next, let's take a look at TC results by team going back to the beginning of 6.0:
- The Spurs were tops the last time I did this back in 3009 and they still hold the crown today. The rest of the top 5 is the Grizzlies, Pacers, Lakers, and Amigos.
- The Amigos are a somewhat noteworthy top 5 team since they didn't exist until 3008 so they had 8 less TCs than many of the other teams.
- The Bulls and Rockets are the worst two for total TC impact, but they also historically have some of the oldest rosters and lowest potentials.
- In fact, over the course of all 29 TCs, we can see that Age and Potential highly correlates with TC results.
In case there was still any doubt about whether or not age and potential correlate with TC results, let's look specifically at those breakdowns:
We can clearly see that the better your potential, the better TC you can expect to have. We also see this with age.
Highest Career TC Growth by Player (only includes seasons on a roster)
- This list is made up of a lot of players still in their prime which intuitively makes sense as they haven't yet had a lot of TCs with low potential where they could expect to decrease.
- It's interesting that Dante Exum had the best natural growth in 6.0 but still didn't end up a very good player. A lot of the other guys on this list are very good players.
Worst Career TC Decline by Player (only includes seasons on a roster)
- Most of this list are creation guys who only were able to have the decrease TCs but not the increase ones.
- Otherwise, you also see a lot of guys who have already retired thus have had all of their bad TCs.
- Dominique Wilkins is an interesting still active player on this list who comes in at #3 all time for worst decline.
