The pride of Cleveland, Ohio and one of the true legends of Ohio high school basketball, "Special K" comes to TMBSL after a standout career at Ohio State where he was an All-Big 10 performer in his final of three seasons with the Buckeyes. Kellogg developed his reputation as a scrapper with the Buckeyes, playing the 4 despite lacking great size and length for the position and yet became one of the most tenacious rebounders in a very talented Big Ten.
Offensively, Kellogg is a bit passive for a big man but that makes sense due to his size limitations. It's difficult for him to work with his back to the basket since he's often giving away a ton of size to those defending him and it makes it tough to find space to get his shot off. Fortunately, he's a very solid jump shooter in the mid-range and should have the range to extend out to the three point line in TMBSL. While he may not create a ton of offense for himself, he could be used as a catch and shoot threat from the corners to try and open up opportunities for his guards in the lane with one less defender stacked in the paint. Even though Kellogg isn't a very assertive player on offense and hangs away from the rim, he still crashes the offensive glass with tenacity once a shot goes up and he does get a fair amount of second chance opportunities once he's got the ball and the defenders aren't on their toes. He's got a soft touch around the rim his size just limits his abilities to be able to take advantage of that. In halfcourt sets, you're not going to want him to try to create much offense for himself because, while he's improved tremendously in his last year in Columbus, he was a very shaky ball-handler at times in his first two seasons and averaged over 3.6 turnovers a game his first two years before improving to 2.1 as a junior.
Defensively, Kellogg's size is a bit of a limitation because he doesn't have the length to be much of a rim protector. He plays his assignments well and he's got the athleticism to switch onto wings and hold his own on the perimeter at times, but he won't ever be a fearsome post presence like many teams are looking for in a big. Despite that, he does out-hustle everyone on the boards and is outstanding on the defensive glass, often getting to rebounds outside of his area and using his strength to wall off much longer and taller defenders well.
